Pastor Steve Durkac
My name is Steve Durkac, and it is my honor to serve as the pastor of CrossHope Chapel.
We are a simple church ministry, so please don’t assume that my role is to raise funds, recruit people to volunteer to serve, or to put butts in our pews. (We don’t even have pews – we use round tables, nor do we require volunteers to function, and we’re certainly not about building a budget.)
My role at CrossHope Chapel is to lead in the facilitation of our verse-by-verse chapter-by-chapter Bible teachings and in providing pastoral care for our fellowship.
My philosophy of ministry is based on Acts 6:4 and Ephesians 4:11, which means that I am most passionate about praying for our people and ministering the Word of God to them as a “pastor and teacher.”
Since giving my life to the Lord Jesus Christ, (you can read about my miracle conversion at my personal testimony page) I have been involved in vocational church ministry beginning in the early 1980’s as an itinerary revivalist, hospital chaplain, and senior pastor with churches and ministries in Ohio, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Alabama.
I have invested 30 years of my adult life in protestant church ministry, having been affiliated with Seventh-day Adventist churches (read I Was Once An Adventist Minister) and Southern Baptist churches.
I hold degrees in religion and pastoral ministry from Southern Adventist University, post-graduate Clinical Pastoral Education with University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia and Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida.
Prior to starting to starting CrossHope Chapel as a simple church ministry, I served for eight years as a hospital chaplain with Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama.
I enjoy writing regularly at my Blog and have written several books including Prayer is the Answer, Ask the Bible, Daily Promise One-Minute Devotionals, Sentence Sermons, and Simple Wedding Ceremony Planning Guide.
If I am not behind my Bible teaching, you will likely find me at the beach officiating a wedding or a vow renewal ceremony. Since 2003 I have enjoyed a very active beach wedding and vow renewal officiating ministry along the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, Alabama, and NW Florida.
My family and I live in west Mobile, Alabama and that includes my beautiful wife Steph, two of my four children, and our family pets Keef (a Dachshund), Jael (a German Shepherd), and Rocky (a Blue Heeler mix rescue dog).
