However, we do want to strike a balance for parents to be able to listen and not feel stressed over their children, so we have self-paced activities for various ages, like coloring sheets or word games or apps (listed below) so children can work alongside family or in our fellowship area.
Our philosophy is based on studies regarding the high percentage of youth exiting church life after leaving home that is related to formal children’s programs. Formal church programs separate children from adults leaving a child disconnected when they suddenly “graduate” to big church.
The biblical basis for this practice is Deuteronomy 31:12-13 and Joshua 8:34-35, where children were part of the assembly of God’s people, and Ephesians 6:1-3 where it is implied that the presence of children were part of the New Testament gatherings.
Children who are able to see and hear moms and dads and adults talk about the Bible and things of God, and grow up experiencing church as a family experience has proven to be the most effective way from them to resist abandoning the faith of their family.
