How to Grow in Faith
The Christian life, the true honest and authentic Christian life, is a walk of faith not of intelligence or perfection, but of grace and growing. The Bible says in 2 Peter 3:18 to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
One can not grow in grace unless they have a need for grace. We are not called to grow in our own self value, but in the grace of Jesus Christ.
Below, you’ll find some help in setting your sails in that direction, by considering an acronym for the word “GROW” as a means for presenting four principles for growing in your faith.
Go to God in Prayer Often.
It is impossible to be a Christian without being a person of prayer. As often as you think of it, is as often as you should pray – opening your heart to God as you would to a close friend.
1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 • Psalm 34:1 • John 15:7 | ABC’s of Prayer
Read the Bible Daily.
God’s word is how God speaks back to you in prayer. Be in the Bible daily. Meditate upon it throughout your day, and this is easiest to do when you start your day with the Bible, even if it’s just a single verse a day.
Romans 10:17 • Ephesians 6:17 • Acts 17:11 | Daily Devotional
Obtain Fellowship in Church.
You will have friendships and associations at work and in your community, but godly fellowship will only enrich your Christian life as you join with like-minded believers in a Bible believing Jesus is Lord church.
Hebrews 10:25 • Acts 2:42 • Matthew 18:20 | Sunday Worship
Witness to Others About Jesus.
Like one who is called in a court of law to explain what he or she saw and experienced, so always be ready to share what Jesus Christ and His word means to you personally.
Acts 1:8 • 1 Peter 3:15 • Matthew 28:18-20 | Good News Bad News
As you follow God, determine to live a life of faith, hope, and love. Have faith in Jesus Christ as the only Savior and Way to eternity in heaven (Ephesians 2:4-9), find hope through the teachings of the Bible as the only authority in matters of beliefs and behaviors (Romans 15:4), and develop love for one-another as the ultimate witness of the Spirit-filled life and testimony to the true character of God (John 13:34-35).
