I just want to make a note on three things…
Prayer Alert Text – I have been really pleased with our Prayer Alert Text ministry, have you? It has been a great honor and a fulfilling part of pastoral ministry to facilitate this tool within the fellowship. If you are full-time or part-time or sometimes a part of our local fellowship here in Mobile, Alabama and you are not on our Prayer Alert Text notification list, just let me know if you want to be added. Our Prayer Alert Text ministry uses the Remind App platform, originally designed for use by classroom teachers to communicate with their student’s parents. You do not have to have the app on your phone, because I do, so you text me your prayer request and I use the app to send that prayer alert automatically sent to the smartphone of all on the list. The good thing with me using this app is there is no having to deal with multiple replies like in a group text. When Vic had his heart attack in Hattiesburg we realized we needed a prayer alert ministry and this one seems to be working well, combined with our Sunday morning prayer board.
Sentence Sermon – Yesterday I sent out an email titled “Sentence Sermon” that was just a line or two. That was an experiment of sorts, because this year I have been doing something new as part of my morning devotional time. Each morning as I sit at my desk in my study I summarize my devotional time with a takeaway thought. So the email I sent out yesterday was part of my wondering of a daily or near daily email, but I realized another daily email may be too much for both of us, and my personal takeaway thought may not mean the same to you as it did to me. In fact, I think it is like manna and really best for the one who gathers it. But, I have thought about sending out a digest version of these Sentence Sermons. Maybe something like “Sentence Sermons to Ponder Between Sunday’s.” It’s likely that at some some point I will publish them in a softcover book, but in the meantime I have shared a few from time to time on my Facebook and Twitter accounts. If you want to read or glance through all the Sentence Sermons I have already gathered, you can do that at www.stevedurkac.org/sentence-sermons.
Easter Sunday – We may need to talk about Easter Sunday and if we are going to change-up our potluck because of it. And there is another twist regarding Easter this year that I hadn’t talk about yet… Payton has had plans since last fall to be in Atlanta that weekend. When these plans were made last October, Steph was going to drive her up there, because I had a wedding scheduled. My wedding has since cancelled so I will likely be the driver for this trip. What’s still up for decision is whether we’ll be back Saturday or Sunday. So, this weekend at church let’s have a family conversation about this Easter.
